Material Spaces – A Thermal Bath
With the body central to the architecture, the building reconnects all our senses with the sensual experience of a thermal bath.
Located in Marselis Forrest near Aarhus, Denmark, the bath offers minimal disturbance from the busy city, thereby amplifying the level of intimacy between body and build. The natural environment of the forest, together with calm experiences of the baths, makes the perfect setting for contemplation and relaxation.
Throughout the building, wood and concrete are instigators between materials, inhabitant and program – consciously and subconsciously guiding the body through, and actively influencing how the inhabitant interacts with the building.
The order of the six different bath experiences throughout the building are sequential but can easily be partially repeated to a desired experience.
The thermal bath experience consists of six different programs, that each has a unique influence on the senses; sauna, steam bath, cold bath, hot bath, main bath and outdoor bath. The sequential order of programs results in contrasting sensual experiences.
