Student Housing in Santiago, Chile
Cultural Transferences have been present for centuries, we witness it more today due to the fact that the world has reached the phenomenon of globalization. A phenomenon that carries international connections, through the presence of vast travel opportunities. Our spectrums as architects on new cities are widened, discovering both similarities and differences from place to place. The phenomenon has given us the opportunity to pursue trans-continental designs across the world.
This thesis project consists of transferring the idea of the Danish student housing typology and placing it into a Chilean context to explore its outcome. It investigates the nature of student housing in Denmark today and how it has developed from it’s beginning. In the process of transferring a new typology from one cultural situation to another, every object falls into a new context and takes on a new meaning. The project challenges this cultural exchange as not being the circulation of objects and ideas as they are but speculate on their relentless interpretation and significance.
