The project deals with the duality of life; between work and play, rationality and irrationality. The project investigates play in full-scale, for all ages and thereby celebrates the mundane experiences in everyday life. Since the world today is dominated by rationality and a very high pace, the project aims to contribute to the opposite and emphasize our need for playfulness and movement, contributing to social sustainability and the well-being of contemporary human beings. Play is a central part of human life and a basic need of a child’s development. It is a basic need of children as well as of adults - realized in a different format for adults. Most of our time we spend moving towards a clear goal or purpose. Play is about not having a goal, allowing yourself to be irrational, free and spontaneous.
The project is situated at Eskelunden, which is currently undergoing development into a green recreational area, hosting future festivals and sport events. The aim is to create an area for play and movement that brings people together, where the act of play is not targeted at children only. Through full-scale building experiments the project intends to manifest play into physical construction, encouraging to immersion into the materials and the surrounding nature.
